A Vision Splendid:

A Vision Splendid is a selection of Australian stories about people on the land, told in their own words.

In 2005 when the book was published, then Greening Australia CEO Carl Binning explained the project:

“These stories are of people who have a deep and loving appreciation of their landscapes. Their hopes and aspirations are bound to the land’s vitality, and their efforts to preserve and nurture that vitality makes for inspirational reading.

“These stories originally came from a broader set of interviews. The original concept for this collection of oral histories was devised by Gregg Borschmann and Greening Australia. It was built on a view that previous case study series had addressed more practical, and perhaps technical, examples of the farm forestry experience, but that there was a need to look into how this related to our social experience and our overriding aspirations of living in the landscape.

“Maybe the over-riding message is best summed up by Rowan Reid, one of the case studies presented here, who says:

“ ... we can shape the land, we can write our story into it - and it can be a positive story.”
